RIDE DETAILS – Mountain Bike The Grand Traverse
The journey starts with a shuttle up to the Opheim lake at 370 masl.
Part 1. We push the bikes for about 45 minutes until is possible to pedaling where the most fit bikers will find a challenge! As we go up, the view across the valley is pretty dramatic from up there.
Part 2. At 810 masl. we hit a less steep track which leads up to the top of the mountain ridge. From the ridge, a panoramic view over the whole mountain system opens up.
We reach the Skorseteggi Peak at 972 masl. and take a break to enjoy our delicious lunch and the gorgeous views. Recommencing the great ride on a singletrack across the high plateau alternating ups and downs.
Part 3.  Time to point our bike downwards on a pure singletrack alternating rock garden sections and two steps down. A truly fabulous mountain bike adventure where you have to pick the good lines and dare to roll over a few rocks.
Next stop is by the Liaset Paraglider take-off which still offer a great view to the valley ahead, paragliders are a good example of how to harness the power of nature in a sustainable way!
Part 4. We take off on a short gravel road section connecting to hidden singletracks then conecting to a tight section by a creek river bed until we reach the first vilkage a more flowy track, all going down.
Part 5.  One short uphill before we get that overdose of singletrack mixing flowy ride with challenging Norwegian alpine terrain to then arrive back in Voss to end a pure mountain bike traverse day.
Part 6. Skål, what a journey!  Time to lift a pint from the local brewery.

SKILL AND FITNESS RATING SYSTEM

We want ensure you will find your adventures appropriate to your ride experience, skill level and interest, is of utmost importance to us.
During the booking time we ask every Rider to review the SKILL AND FITNESS RATING SYSTEM below, to ensure we can offer the most appropriate cycling route so you’re confident to executing the set skill and fitness.

SKILL RATINGS :

SKILL LEVEL 1 – NEWBIE
You’ve never ridden a mountain bike before.
SKILL LEVEL 2 – BEGINNER
You have limited experience with off-road trail riding.
SKILL LEVEL 3 – NOVICE
You’re hooked on riding off-road and wide dirt trails (gravel trails or doubletrack), but still lack the skills and confidence to consistently ride terrain with roots, rocks, tight corners, tight trees and steeps. Singletrack – what is singletrack?
SKILL LEVEL 4 – STRONG NOVICE
Your dedication to mountain biking has led you to your first handful of rides on real singletrack. You enjoy the smooth mellow singletrack, although often the trees feel too tight, the climbs come too quick to shift and have you walking, and the obstacles have you a bit surprised as you did not even know people ride right over logs!
SKILL LEVEL 5 – INTERMEDIATE
TERRAIN
At a controlled speed and on mellow singletrack terrain, you are comfortable riding a variety of singletrack which may include tight trees, mud, loose rocks and sand.
OBSTACLES
You are comfortable and confident rolling over small obstacles (a couple inches high) like roots, rocks and small rollable drops (a couple inches high). You do not take your wheels off the ground.
SKILL LEVEL 6 – ADVANCED
TERRAIN
You are comfortable riding a variety of singletrack which may include tight trees, mud, loose rocks and sand and are comfortable doing so on aggressive terrain with little braking.
OBSTACLES
You can hop over obstacles such as small roots and rocks that less advanced riders may wheel lift over. You are comfortable and confident with a front wheel lift and rear wheel lift to get up and over larger obstacles (up to 20cm) such as roots and rocks that are not rollable.
SKILL LEVEL 7 – EXPERT
TERRAIN
You are comfortable riding a variety of singletrack which may include tight trees, mud, loose rocks and sand and are comfortable doing so on aggressive terrain with little braking. You rarely, if ever, walk.
OBSTACLES
You often hop over obstacles such as roots and rocks that less advanced riders may wheel lift over. Small drops are no issue for you and you are comfortable with having both wheels leave the ground.
BIKE PARK
If you have ridden a bike park, you are comfortable on all black and double black trails.
